What is Level II Trauma?
What is a Level II Trauma Center?
Trauma centers are designated from Level I, the highest, to Level IV, the lowest. UP Health System – Marquette has been a Level II Trauma Center since 2006, providing expert, life-saving care to patients across the Upper Peninsula.
As a Level II Trauma Center, we offer 24/7 access to a highly skilled trauma team, including:
-
- 24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons, as well as coverage by the specialties of cardiac surgery, hemodialysis, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology and critical care
- Trauma prevention and continuing education programs for staff
- A comprehensive quality assessment program
Level II Trauma Centers provide initial definitive trauma care for a broad range of injuries and may also lead regional education, system coordination and disaster planning efforts. When a trauma activation occurs at UPHS – Marquette, a dedicated, highly trained team assembles in the Emergency Department before the patient’s arrival, ensuring immediate care.
Our center is equipped to stabilize and treat major trauma cases, but patients requiring highly specialized care may be transferred to a Level I Trauma Center.
With state-of-the-art facilities and a commitment to excellence, we deliver high-quality trauma care comparable to that in larger cities, following nationally recognized best practices to ensure the best possible outcomes for our community.
