Trauma Care at UP Health System
Trauma is the fourth leading cause of death in individuals under 65 and the leading cause of death in patients under 45. It occurs without warning and can result in life-altering changes not only for the victim but also for their families and communities. Trauma patients sustain injuries in a variety of situations many occurring in the course of everyday activities such as falls, motorized vehicle crashes, gunshot wounds, and sporting athletic injuries to name a few.
At UP Health System, we understand that trauma affects more than just the patient—it impacts their loved ones as well. Our commitment to providing high-quality, local trauma care allows families to remain close to their loved ones during critical moments. Family involvement plays a key role in recovery, and by receiving care close to home, patients and their families experience less disruption to their daily lives. Additionally, the rapid transfer of patients from outlying community hospitals to our UPHS higher-level trauma care center is seamlessly coordinated and expedited utilizing both ground and air emergency services.
