Support for Patients and Families
UP Health System – Marquette offers an experienced support team for the families of trauma patients. This team includes but is not limited to, specially trained nurses, social service professionals and spiritual care. This team assists families with emotional, spiritual and financial needs during times of crisis.
A case manager specially trained and experienced in trauma care coordinates the team's efforts and serves as the single point of contact for patients, family members and members of the patient's care team. The case manager also fulfills the role of patient advocate, providing a knowledgeable voice for patients and families to assist with the navigation of treatment and recovery.
After the critical period of care has passed, team members help families by serving as liaisons to outside agencies involved with the case or helping families understand insurance and general care questions.
