Why I teach at Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
After seven years of practicing in rural Ironwood, it became clear to me that my favorite time of the year was when I had a medical student rotating with me. When I was asked to join the faculty, it was an awesome opportunity to mentor physicians just beginning their careers. The best part of my job is watching someone go from a nervous intern to a confident, competent, and compassionate physician. The Marquette Family Medicine Residency is a family which makes it all that much better!

Hiking, spending time with friends, singing in my church Praise Band, and hanging out with my dog Roxi.

What I love about working at the Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
I love helping the next generation of physicians find their passion and blossom into confident and compassionate young professionals. We are planting the seed that will hopefully develop into a deep-rooted passion for rural family medicine. Our rural program lures a variety of learners from all walks of life, people I may not have gotten the opportunity to know otherwise. I love to share my hometown, our incredible Upper Peninsula, with people from all over the world. Seeing the excitement from the residents that get to experience our program and our area warms my heart.

I enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, and spending time at the lake with family.

Why I teach at Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
Even in my past career as a paramedic, I enjoyed my role as a classroom and clinical instructor thus teaching seemed a natural fit for me. I am grateful to work with the same people who shaped me as a clinician in passing that knowledge and experience to the next generation of physicians. My family and I are delighted to continue to live and work in the Upper Peninsula community we consider home.

Hobbies/Interests outside of work?
Spending time with my wife and 6 children, getting outdoors, photography, plinking – whether that be on the piano or target practice, fishing or hunting when I have the opportunity.

Why I teach at Marquette Family Medicine Residency Program?
Early on, I wanted to be a teacher as much as a physician. Being part of the residency allows me to do both. Teaching keeps you up to date and helps ensure you are providing the best care possible. Sharing with the residents my training and work experiences in family medicine, geriatrics, and palliative medicine will enrich their learning experience and help benefit our patients and community.

Spending time with my family and our dog, doing outdoor activities, playing pickleball, settling into and organizing our new home, my faith, and learning about our new surroundings.

I enjoy seeing residents grow in their medical abilities and confidence. I hope to mentor them in a way that keeps their curiosity and joy of discovering and understanding the human body alive, as well as to remind them to see the person behind each medical problem. Working with residents also helps me stay current in my medical knowledge.
