What is dialysis?
Dialysis works as an artificial filtration system for your blood to remove waste and excess water when your kidneys are not functioning properly. It is most often done for patients with kidney failure and is also referred to as renal replacement therapy. Both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis require machines to function in place of the kidneys, which support your body by regulating the amount of fluid, salt and chemicals in your blood. The kidneys also produce hormones that control blood pressure, blood cell production and bone health.
Who you will see?
Your dialysis team will coordinate your care with your nephrologist and regular doctor to ensure your best treatment and care when you are diagnosed with kidney failure or other conditions requiring dialysis. They will work with you to develop a plan of care for the best quality of life possible and assist you with any questions or concerns.
New to dialysis?
On your first visit, please wear comfortable clothing, including a button down or zippered top. You’ll be with us for 4 hours, so bring a companion or a hobby along if you wish. You may also enjoy your own individual television and remote headset if you prefer. If you have questions, we encourage you to ask about anything you want to know. Our staff will go the extra mile to help you learn about dialysis and its impact on your body and lifestyle.
