Cardiac Rehabilitation
The cardiac rehabilitation program at UP Health System is designed to support your individual journey to a healthier heart. If you're worried about your risk for heart disease, or you are recovering from a heart event, our staff is ready to support you. We offer a welcoming, supportive environment and an individualized approach to nutrition and exercise tailored to your lifestyle.
Treatment can begin in the hospital following a heart event, or after discharge. Talk to your provider about joining our cardiac rehabilitation program. Most insurance plans partially or fully cover the cost of this service.
You may qualify for cardiac rehabilitation if you have experienced any of the following:

- A heart attack (also known as a “myocardial infarction”) in the past 12 months
- Coronary Bypass Surgery
- Valve replacement or repair
- Angioplasty or “stent” placement
- Heart transplant
- Stable chest pain (also known as stable angina)
- Congestive heart failure

Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
If you have heart disease, are recovering from heart surgery, or recently experienced a heart event — such as a heart attack — our experienced staff provide a one-on-one, guided path to help you nurture heart-healthy lifestyle changes, reducing risk for future heart events.

- Motivation through a fun atmosphere, music, staff, and group support
- Individualized exercise program to build cardiovascular endurance and strengthen muscles
- Cholesterol and nutrition tips and tools, plus one-on-one consultation with a dietitian
- Group and individual discussions regarding heart disease, nutrition, and stress management — all tailored to your lifestyle
- Telemetry and blood pressure monitoring in each session
- Progress reports to primary care provider
- 12 - 36 week program (2-3 sessions per week)

Phase I begins in the hospital. If you are hospitalized due to heart disease or a heart event, such as a heart attack, our staff will begin working with you in the hospital. Patients receive education on risk factors related to heart disease and lifestyle improvements involving exercise and nutrition.
Phase II continues the program in an outpatient setting.
This program is designed for those who have heart disease or have recently had: stable angina, angioplasty. stenting, valve replacement, Coronary Artery Bypass (CABG). myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart transplant, congestive heart failure, or peripheral artery disease.
Clinical Fitness Program
If you'd like to decrease your risk of developing or worsening heart disease, this program is designed with you in mind. Our experienced staff provide ongoing support and health monitoring to improve your long-term heart health.

This program is available to those who are at risk for heart disease or have: diabetes, metabolic syndrome, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, low exercise tolerance, obesity, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Many individuals who complete both the inpatient and outpatient phases of the Cardiac Rehab program continue their progress through the Clinical Fitness program.
