Patrick Prouty Jr. is a Registered Nurse in the Med Surg Department at UP Health System – Portage.
What is your role at UPHS-Portage?
I am a Registered Nurse in the Med Surg Department at UP Health System – Portage.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always felt a calling to help people. I was unsure what I wanted to do with my life, and nursing kind of found me. With the constant support of my family, I set off on this journey and have loved every minute of it ever since.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical night on the floor for me involves settling patients in for the night, providing care, maintaining their medication schedules, and in a true Yooper fashion having a visit or two with each patient.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I am coming up on my one-year anniversary with this position in April. I previously worked at Express Care as a clinic specialist for a few months while I was studying for my NCLEX.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
The biggest change is looking back at how far I’ve come along in this position. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new, and nursing really allows you to see the progression – I’m proud of my journey.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I am a huge sports fanatic, as well as an outdoors lover. I’m also a big fan of music, movies, cooking, Taco Bell, and finding time to wind down. My favorite hidden gem is agate hunting.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
I really enjoy the team approach at Portage. Our staff is always willing to go the extra mile for our patients. I am honored to be a part of it, and I take pride in knowing we make a difference.
