What is your role at UPHS – Portage?
I am an Executive Assistant at UP Health System – Portage (UPHS – Portage).
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
Having a strong desire to be able to help individuals within the community.
What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day in my position involves attending daily briefings, managing schedules and coordinating various meetings. However, every day is different, as I encounter new challenges and opportunities to assist in different ways, making each day dynamic and rewarding.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed at Portage for the past five years, beginning in the rehab department as a receptionist. Over time I transitioned into the role of office coordinator for rehab and more recently, I took on the position of executive assistant.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
One of the biggest changes I have experienced in this position, compared to my previous roles, is the opportunity to work closely with a diverse group of leaders, physicians and individuals within the community. This exposure has allowed me to broaden my perspective and collaborate with a variety of people, which has been awesome!
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite gem?
I love to travel, camp, rock hunt and go fishing. One of my favorite local places is Copper Harbor. I tend to spend most of my weekends during the summer camping and hiking in Copper Harbor.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
What I enjoy most about working here is the opportunity to help people in various ways. Whether it's assisting colleagues or supporting patients. Being able to make a positive impact in different ways is very rewarding to me.
