What is your role at UPHS – Portage?
I am a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and am responsible for taking care of the residents at PortagePointe.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
My grandmother lived at PortagePointe — it was an amazing home then and it still is just as amazing today. I also have been the hairstylist for the past 20 years at PortagePointe.
What's a typical day like for you?
My days are PortagePointe are busy always, from breakfast to morning rounds, to lunch, our team is constantly busy — but we do not let that get in the way of delivering high-quality care to the residents.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I am in my 17th year as a CNA at PortagePointe and I love every minute of it.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
A big change that we all had to deal with is the constant change of guidelines due to COVID-19 and having to adapt to wearing a mask daily. I am proud of our team at PortagePointe and how they pushed through and adapted.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our five grandchildren — they keep us busy! During the summer, we spend a lot of time out at our camp!
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
I love working here, it's a great environment! Each resident has their life stories and they are always willing to share those stories with us. You create a special bond with one another!
