Dawn Kiser, LPN-PMG Clinic Supervisor at UP Health System – Portage
What is your title and role at UPHS-Portage? My title is Clinic Supervisor. I am responsible for a variety of duties. Some of those duties include: staffing and timekeeping, along with scheduling staff for visiting providers; orientation of new employees to their clinic department and assigning mentors and competencies; holding daily briefs, defining and refining clinic workflows, best practice, and standards of care; along with leading the clinical council and working on patient satisfaction. Currently, I am working through the rollout of our new EMR and workflows with staff, and assisting with the expansion of Orthopedic services at our Calumet Clinic.
How long have you been employed here? I have been employed here since November of 2020.
How do you define success in the Portage Physician Practice Offices? Success for me is creating the mindset of “It is all about the patient”. I want all of our patients to feel like VIP’s. I am excited to be a part of growing Portage Medial Group into the Provider of choice for the Keweenaw.
Tell us a little bit about your family: I have 4 children. My first 2 children are grown with families of their own and live out of the area. My 2 youngest children attend Michigan State University. I grew up in Menominee MI. I moved to the Keweenaw in 2010. When I got here I felt like I was finally home.
What is your favorite childhood memory you would like to share? My favorite childhood memory is going to a park on Lake Michigan with my grandparents on Saturday mornings. My Grandparents would cook breakfast on an open fire. The whole family would come and then we would swim or walk on the beach.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I spend my spare time in my yard planting flowers. I go on “adventures” rock hunting, fishing ,hiking or looking for Moose in remote areas of the UP with my sweetheart.
What is the best part about working for UPHS-Portage? The best part of working at UPHS-Portage is the great people who work here. I am proud to be a part of a staff that is dedicated to excellence in all areas.
