What is your role at UPHS?

I am a Patient Services Representative in the Medical Specialists office at UP Health System – Marquette.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

To be honest, I never realized just how rewarding it would be to work in this field and be able to assist people with their healthcare.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

My typical day starts out with checking all insurance eligibility and making necessary changes prior to a patient’s arrival. After that, I work on any prior authorizations our patients need for imaging orders. I enjoy seeing all our patients as they check out of the office and schedule their follow-up appointments. Many love to share great stories with us. 

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have been in this position for six years now. 

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?

There's always change when new providers are coming into the office and when others retire. I have done my best to go with the flow and do whatever I can do to help those transitions be easier for my coworkers and me.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

Outside of work, I like to spend time with my wonderful husband and three beautiful children. We love hunting, fishing, and especially camping in the great outdoors. In my other free time, I enjoy crocheting.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

Definitely the patients. Sometimes, seeing us in the office may be the only interaction patients have. It is very rewarding to be able to bring sunshine and smiles to their day.
