What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am the lab administrative coordinator at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I was inspired to work at the hospital as my sister is an RN and seeing the importance of work made me realize I needed to find a role in healthcare.
What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
On any given day you can find me reviewing requisitions for accuracy, billing out labs, creating new CDMs for lab tests, helping patients resolve lab billing issues and working with corporate billing to resolve claims. Among many other job duties.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I came to UP Health System – Marquette in 1990 and have worked in the lab the entire time. My position has evolved with new responsibilities and my title changed with time.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
Information system changes, the new facility and seeing my role changing substantially over the years.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite gem?
I love spending time with my four kids and granddaughter. We spend lots of time helping family with projects. Over the years my husband, Cory and I have become pretty good at flooring, windows and cabinetry installs. A favorite local spot would be Sugar Loaf or any of the beautiful Lake Superior beaches.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
The people. I have had the privilege to work with so many great people and am happy to have called many of them friends over the years.
