What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am the Clinic Care Manager at UP Health System – Marquette | Doctor’s Park.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I started out with going on local emergency fire/EMS calls with my hubby when we were first married. I took the EMT-basic class through UP Health System School of EMT years ago and worked my way through the nursing career path. Found my love of helping others and doing what I can to make their day better.
What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
My work days vary depending on number of patients recently discharged from the hospital to follow up with. I ensure they have what they need once they are home and are doing okay. Days also depend on the patients being seen in our clinic and if they need help being set up with resources to help them with multiple things, such as food insecurity to nursing home placement. Sometimes, it is simply being a supportive listening ear, letting them know they are not alone.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been here for just over a year in the same position.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
Definitely the big change was in the EMR system that we changed to.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite gem?
Spending time with our three rescue dogs, one rescue cat, and 14 spoiled pet chickens is my perfect day. No snow months are meant for local car shows with my husband, as we have our own vehicles we show. My favorite local gem is visiting our majestic Lake Superior.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy the challenges my job can offer that allow me to help others. I’m always learning something new. When you join UP Health System, you truly join a huge family that cares!
