What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am the pharmacy inventory coordinator at UPHS – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I just kind of fell into it, actually. I was working in restaurant management and was desperate to do literally anything else. A pharmacist friend asked if I would be interested in a pharmacy tech position and I ended up loving it! Once I made the transition from retail to hospital, I loved it even more.
What's a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Right now, working in pharmacy supply is fast-paced. I don’t think there’s a single day where I don’t hit the ground running. My day primarily consists of sourcing and maintaining everything the pharmacy needs to take care of our patients. Whether it’s medications, fluids, sterile supplies or rubber bands, I’m responsible for it. Every day I'm adapting and problem-solving, so there’s always some new challenge to tackle.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I’ve been here for about six years. I worked as a pharmacy technician for about three years, then took a short break. I came back as the pharmacy inventory technician and moved into the coordinator position about two years ago.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
Without a doubt, the move to this facility. I was one of our pharmacy super users, and being able to be involved in that process, even in a small capacity, was an unforgettable experience.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite gem?
I love to travel! Whether it’s domestic or abroad, I enjoy exploring new places and trying new things!
Locally, I have a soft spot for downtown Negaunee. They’re really making strides to build a great community, and it’s wonderful to be able to experience the changes as they happen. Places like Campfire Coffee, Midtown Bakery, Love & Bicycles, Strega Nonna and the Upper Peninsula Brewing Company never disappoint.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I know everyone says their co-workers, and I’m not going to be any different. Our team has graciously adapted to the changes we’ve had to make in order to keep providing the care that we do. They’re a fantastic group of people who make the most stressful days a little easier to get through and I feel so fortunate to be able to call so many of them friends.
