Megan Brown, RN in the Endoscopy Department.

What is your official title?
I am a Registered Nurse in the Endoscopy Department at UPHS — Marquette.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I always knew that I wanted to go into healthcare, but it wasn’t until I started college that I decided I should go into nursing.

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Every single day is different because Endoscopy is a very unique department. We do our own admissions, recovery, and scope cleaning. I work as a procedure nurse and handle equipment in our procedure rooms. We do several advanced procedures which sometimes require traveling to the OR or ICU for our cases. We are able to work in so many different roles, making every day a little different.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been working at UPHS — Marquette since 2012. I started as a Care Aide in the Cardiac Unit while I was finishing Nursing School. I continued to work on that floor as an RN after completing school the next year. In 2015, I transferred to Endoscopy and I’ve been here since then!

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
We have experienced so many changes! First, we moved to the new hospital, next we upgraded to a new charting/scanning system, and finally, COVID-19 of course has made a huge impact on how we complete our procedures. It’s definitely been a whirlwind, but I’m proud of our team for adapting to these changes so that we can still provide high-quality care and keep patients and staff safe.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I have a two and a half-year-old son at home, so when I’m not at work, I’m spending time with him. We love to be outside! Thankfully he also loves the beach as much as I do. We were there almost every day this past summer. As far as my favorite local gem, it’s hard to narrow it down, but I love Donckers and the Ore Dock Brewery!

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I love my coworkers! They make my days enjoyable, and we work great as a team to provide quality patient care!
