What is your role at UPHS-Bell?
I am a Nurse Practitioner at our Express Care for UP Health System – Bell.
What was your inspiration for getting into Healthcare?
My inspiration for getting into healthcare was my mother. She is a nurse, and I have always felt the need to care for others.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day may involve seeing anywhere from 20-40+ patients with various ailments: from a common cold, musculoskeletal injuries, or now COVID. It can be busy and non-stop from the time I start to the time I end my day. Working in my field is very challenging, but also very rewarding.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been at Bell for a little over a year now. I first started as a PRN employee in the COVID clinic, and then accepted my current full-time position.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
The continual changes associated with the waxing and waning of the COVID pandemic, as well as the volume of patients.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy reading, cooking, and gardening. I also hope to do more kayaking this summer. My favorite local gem is visiting all of the waterfalls that are available in the Upper Peninsula.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
The sense of family and camaraderie is evident, as well as being able to take care of others.
