What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am a staff nurse in the Acute Care Unit (ACU).
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always wanted to be a nurse and to help people. My mom told me I came home at the age of four and said I was going to be a nurse and I never changed my mind.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
I get the report at 7 am, organize my day, and by 8 am, I am usually seeing my patients. I also try to help others on the floor whenever I can.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I’ve been back at Bell for almost three years. I have worked in the ACU the entire time. I worked at the old hospital from 1995-2003 in the OB unit. One day, I wouldn’t mind working there again.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Working during COVID has shown lots of changes. It is nice to have things back to a more “normal” state. I still try to show compassion whenever I can.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
My faith and family are my life outside of work. I love the waterfalls, camping, going to the beach on Lake Superior, and eating at my favorite restaurants—LaCatrina or Congress Pizza!
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
Being part of a team in which many of them I can call friends!
