What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am the Executive Assistant at UPHS – Bell.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I enjoy being able to help others, and working in the healthcare field allows me to do that.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
I answer phone calls, schedule and attend meetings, take meeting minutes, create forms, develop contracts and leases, direct patients to the locations they are looking for, assist with projects, and many other things I am asked to help with. There isn’t anything “typical” about each day, there always seems to be something new.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have worked at Bell for 16 years. I started as the administrative assistant and have moved up to the executive assistant.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
I have worked with several different administrators, but the largest change was when we transitioned from Bell Memorial Hospital to UP Health System - Bell. There are changes happening every day, and something new is learned each day.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy spending time with my husband, Randy; son, Anthony (who is only home from Michigan Tech University on most weekends); daughter, Alyssa; and our dog, Buster. A lot of my time is spent volunteering for the Westwood High School Booster Club, working concessions. I am also on a Wednesday night bowling league. It’s just a fun night out with friends at the River Rock Lanes.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
There is a family atmosphere here at Bell. I have become friends with many of the staff here and it’s a great place to work.
