What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am the Clinical Informatics Nurse for Bell Physician Practices.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I am a people person and I love helping others in their time of need. I want to be able to advocate for the patients who can’t advocate for themselves and give them the tools and education they need to best take care of their health.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day is finding ways to improve our EMR (Electronic Medical Record) and troubleshoot any issues that might arise. I develop processes and procedures for staff to use our EMR more efficiently and effectively. I also am very passionate about the emerging technology that we can use for our patients such as the patient portal and digital check-in. Working in my position, I feel, gives me the best of both worlds—I still have patient contact when I am needed and can also work on projects that improve patient care from another standpoint.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I started in January 2022 and have always been in the same position.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Technology is constantly changing and advancing, so that is something that I have to always be aware of and update our EMR processes to best serve our patient needs.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I spend a lot of time with my family and watching my kids with their different activities. I also have two cats that I absolutely adore. I love to hike to the different waterfalls in the UP. In the summer, kayaking and relaxing on Teal Lake is my favorite.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
I enjoy my coworkers and the family-like atmosphere here. All the departments throughout the entire hospital work together to provide the best care for every patient.
