UP Health System Welcomes Orthopedic Hand Surgeon Andrew Mitchelson, MD
October 22, 2021
UP Health System is pleased to welcome orthopedic surgeon, Andrew Mitchelson, MD. Dr. Mitchelson comes to Marquette from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Erie, PA, where he completed his hand and upper extremity fellowship. A graduate of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Dr. Mitchelson completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the same center in Springfield, IL.
As an orthopedic surgeon of the upper extremity, Dr. Mitchelson specializes in the treatment of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and elbow – most commonly to help relieve symptoms related to inflammation, injury, pain, limited range of motion, or deformity. Common procedures of the hand include carpal tunnel surgery, trigger finger surgery, Dupuytren’s contracture surgery, joint replacement, tendon repair, and nerve repair.
“Our hands play a huge role in how many of us interact and engage with the world,” said Dr. Mitchelson. “The ability to help someone regain movement is what drew me to orthopedic surgery,” he continues. “It’s a real privilege to be able to help people get back to their lives, free from limitation and pain.”
Dr. Mitchelson looks forward to practicing in a tightly knit, welcoming community. “When I visited the Upper Peninsula for the first time, I was blown away by everything this area had to offer. The natural beauty and the friendly people are second to none. It seems like a great fit, and I am so excited to be part of the community.”
Dr. Mitchelson joins a robust team of surgeons caring for patients at UP Health System and will perform procedures and surgeries at both UP Health System – Marquette and UP Health System – Bell in Ishpeming.
