UP Health System – Portage Welcomes Hematologist-Oncologist, Charles Goodwin, MD, PhD

SEPTEMBER 15, 2021, HANCOCK, MI | UP Health System – Portage is pleased to welcome Charles Goodwin, MD, Ph.D., to the Cancer Care team. Board-certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible for Hematology and Medical Oncology, Dr. Goodwin specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adult cancers and blood disorders, offering support and specialized treatment options close to home.

Dr. Goodwin is a graduate of the Medical Scientist Training Program, a dual degree program at the Indiana University School of Medicine. There, Dr. Goodwin earned his Ph.D. in Medical and Molecular Genetics along with his Doctor of Medicine. He then went on to fulfill his residency and fellowship at the University of Utah School of Medicine.

As an educator as well as a healer, it’s a priority for Dr. Goodwin that each patient understands their diagnosis and available treatment options. “My job is to provide as much information and education as possible to my patients, allowing them to make informed decisions about their care. The most fulfilling part of my job is the relationships I form with my patients and their families, so establishing trust is important to me,” said Dr. Goodwin.

When considering the move to the Upper Peninsula, Dr. Goodwin was drawn by the natural features and the local culture of the area. “I look forward to joining a friendly community with easy access to nature.” Outside of work, Dr. Goodwin enjoys reading, music, and hiking with his dog.
