UP Health System – Portage Implements Visitor Restrictions
March 4, 2025

Due to the rising number of respiratory illnesses—COVID-19, influenza and RSV—and the increased rate of transmission in our communities, we will implement limited visitor restrictions effective Wednesday, March 5, for all inpatient units at our hospital. Visitor restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
As always, the safety of our patients, providers and team members continues to be our top priority. We continue to take all of the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of illness in our facilities. We want to reassure our communities that it is still safe to come to our hospitals and clinics should you or your family need care.
In an effort to protect you and our patients, the following restrictions apply:
- Visitors who are ill with cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, vomiting or diarrhea are not permitted.
- Children under 14 are not permitted to visit.
- In our Family Birthing Center, visitors are limited to parents, labor coaches and grandparents.
UP Health System – Portage continues to take all the necessary precautions to keep you and our patients safe by isolating contagious patients appropriately, maintaining the most effective cleaning and disinfecting protocols and enhancing safety with personal protective equipment protocols. These protective measures for managing infectious diseases ensure our facilities are always safe for you and our community when they need care.
We understand these visitor restrictions may be difficult, however, we feel these protective measures are necessary for the health and safety of all. We, along with our community health partners, are monitoring respiratory illnesses closely and we will reassess and adjust visitor restrictions when we feel it’s safe and appropriate to do so.
For more information on respiratory illnesses and how to protect yourself and others, we encourage you to visit the CDC’s website. Thank you for helping us to ensure a safe environment for our patients and employees.
