Board-certified in pulmonology, critical care, and internal medicine, Dr. Karulf attended medical school at the University of Colorado in Denver, CO. Most recently, he has served as an attending pulmonary and critical care physician at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, MI, where he actively managed care for patients in the cardiothoracic critical care unit and provided inpatient/outpatient consultation and care for patients with pulmonary diseases.
“With more than 20 years of experience in the field, I’m honored to bring pulmonology and critical care services to residents of the Upper Peninsula (UP),” said Dr. Karulf. “As a physician, I’m passionate about providing quality care and building trusting relationships with my patients and the medical community around me."
Dr. Karulf also specializes in interstitial lung diseases and evaluation of thoracic nodules, masses, and tumors, and has experience in advanced bronchoscopy techniques, including navigational bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, and thoracentesis.

She completed her fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, where she received multiple teaching awards from her medicine residents.

During this time, she was a pulmonary disease consultant, and took a keen interest in adult cystic fibrosis; she was the physician lead for the Cystic Fibrosis Transition Clinic, assistant director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, and conducted clinical research trials in cystic fibrosis.
“I was a student in the UP Program at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and received a superb education while here,” said Dr. Lehman. “When the opportunity arose to return and join UP Health System, I didn’t hesitate. It is my honor to provide pulmonary care to residents of the UP, and I look forward to building relationships with my patients and families for years to come.”
