UP Health System – Bell Heroes | Brigitta Kubas, RN
December 20, 2024
What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am an Emergency Department (ED) staff nurse.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
When I was a high school junior, I picked nursing, knowing I would always have a job and would serve other people.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Working in a rural ED brings very busy days and some not-so-busy days. It's my job to guide my patients through admission, blood tests and imaging and medicate when needed. I really enjoy the teaching part!
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I've been in Bell's ED since May. Also, from 2019-2021, I was on the Medical/Surgical Unit and in the ED.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
COVID changed nursing. It's been very difficult to find the joy I used to have after feeling so burnt out.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I have a little hobby farm with chickens and a pumpkin patch. Also, my family.
My favorite local gem is Upper Peninsula Brewing Company.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
Bell's ED has amazing nurses and doctors!
