December 15, 2023
What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am a receptionist for the Occupational Medicine clinic.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I wanted to have a desk job that could have an impact on other people's lives.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Checking patients in, talking with employers and scheduling, and doing office work in my spare time—like scanning documents and catching up on phone calls and emails.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
One year. I have worked before as a receptionist, but never at a clinic. When I lived in Spain, I was an English teacher.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Learning how the health system works in the United States, I think, was the biggest change for me.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I like writing and reading novels and just anything related to crafts. I also volunteer at my church, helping with the youth group and teaching Spanish on Saturdays. My favorite local gem is the Ishpeming Library.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
Having such great coworkers.
