October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
Did you know that one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime? That's why it's important to begin annual mammogram screenings at age 40. Regular mammograms are essential for early detection. In fact, with early detection, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is almost 100 percent. 3D mammography has proven to detect breast cancers 15 months earlier, reducing unnecessary call-backs by up to 40%, and finding 41% more invasive cancers than conventional mammography alone.
UP Health System — Portage is hosting a free breast cancer lunch and learn about the basic biology of breast cancer and treatment options, along with the importance of annual mammogram screenings.
