What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am the director of the Revenue Cycle department at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I actually wanted to be a nurse, but it turns out I couldn't handle the bodily fluids part!
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
No day is typical, but I can definitely say I help at least one person in the community with a billing issue. I enjoy the challenges of making sure we get reimbursed for the services provided and the multifaceted teamwork that is needed to get that done.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed since 1998 and in some sort of finance role since 1999.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
The ever changes in insurance coverages and medical necessity keep me moving. And when you add in system conversions, my work is constantly evolving.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
My new granddaughter has all my attention and interest now. And I really don’t have a favorite local gem—anywhere in the Upper Peninsula is a great place to visit.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
The best part about working here is the connections made and making a difference in the lives of so many people we come in contact with.
