What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am the plant operations coordinator at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
After twenty years in retail, logistics and operations management, and a few years in human resources leadership, I found myself wanting to try something that was beyond my scope of experience and afforded a better work/life balance. I’m very happy I made the jump to healthcare and facilities management—you just never know where life will take you.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Every day is a little different because I field calls and requests for all types of facility issues throughout the many UPHS – Marquette properties. I’m never sure what each day will bring, and there are always large projects to balance with day-to-day operations.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
Just about nine months. Yes, I have been in the same position.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
So far, the biggest change has been the completion of the construction of the new Medical Office Building on Washington Street and the subsequent department moves. I’m learning something new every day.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy photography, painting, cooking, and reading. I also like a bike ride around town…but I think Peter White Public Library is a true local gem.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
Playing a small role in helping to make a deeply personal experience better for patients is very satisfying. I also really enjoy my teammates—the Plant Ops crew has been nothing but patient and helpful with me as I learn about the facility and its systems. I feel fortunate to work with such a tenured group of individuals.
