What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a Radiation Therapist for the Cancer Center at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have a passion for helping others. I knew I wanted to join a career field where I could care for my community and also build relationships with my patients. Radiation Therapy definitely allows me to do that.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
We rotate through different roles within the department. Some days are filled with treating patients on our linear accelerator. Other days, I work in the planning room creating patient immobilization devices and acquiring CT scans for the Radiation Oncologist to create a treatment plan.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been with UP Health System for about 5 years. I started in clinical rotation here during my schooling and I loved it. So, once I graduated I applied.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Some big changes are moving over to the new hospital, learning to use upgraded and improved technology, and progressing to more advanced treatments in cancer care.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I enjoy making memories with my family. My two-year-old daughter and I love to sing and dance to Disney songs. Our local gem is Rapid River; I enjoy visiting the Swallow Inn for a fish fry or nachos.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy working in the Cancer Center because I love being able to make a difference in the lives of others during such a difficult time.
